BADMINTON                   

1 GOVERNING RULES Revised 6/06           

    1.1 Badminton competition shall be conducted in accordance with the International Badminton Federation Rules (IBF) except where they conflict with the CIF Central Section rules approved by the Board of Managers.

    1.2 Leagues will participate in divisional (team) and section (individual) finals.

2. GENERAL RULES

    2.1 Players must at all times be under the supervision of an employee of the Board of Education.

    2.2 Entry fees for all meets must be in accordance with current rules.

    2.3 Medals and other individual awards at CIF sanctioned meets shall be given in accordance with current rules. Medals at the League Individual Finals shall be awarded to the top six (6) singles and top six (6) doubles teams.

    2.4 All individual meets must be sanctioned by CIF Central Section and held in accordance with all CIF Central Section rules and procedures.

3. CONTEST REGULATIONS

    3.1 There will not be paid officials for dual meets.

    3.2 Number of participants will be five (5) singles and six (6) doubles.

    3.3 An athlete will be allowed to compete in either singles or doubles.

    3.4 Matches shall consist of 2 out of 3 games. Singles will play to 11 points and will win by 2 points with a cap of 13. Doubles will play to 15 points and will win by 2 points with a cap of 17.

    3.5 The team with the highest match score wins the contest. Each match counts as 1 point. Forfeits for injury or default equal 1 point.

    3.6 Coaches will exchange line-ups ten (10)  minutes prior to the beginning of the first match at each contest.

    3.7 The order of the matches shall be doubles first; ranked singles teams will fill in as courts become available. Starting the 2nd round, singles play will be first, and doubles will fill in as courts become available.

    3.8 Coaching or other distractions are not allowed during a match. Coaches may confer with players only during the five minute rest period between the second and third games. Players may consult with coaches for interpretation of rules.

    3.9 Players may not leave the court during play.

4. RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE HOST SCHOOL

    4.1 The host school shall furnish a minimum of 11 new shuttlecocks per contest. 

    4.2 Site ground rules, including court dimensions and boundaries, shall be established in accordance with IBF regulations.

    4.3 If a shuttlecock hits any obstruction, it is considered a "let" unless otherwise determined by specific ground rules.

5. ELIGIBILITY

    5.1 All participants must meet the CIF State and Central Section eligibility rules.

6. SEASON OF SPORT

    6.1 The season of sport will be the Spring season and will start with the first interschool competition and end with the last regularly scheduled league contest, except those participating in play-off competition.

    6.2 A school will be limited to a maximum of eighteen (18) contests per season, excluding play-off competition.

    6.3 One scrimmage per season is permitted.

7. LEAGUE STANDINGS                           

    7.1 League standings shall be determined on the basis of the win/loss record of each school in the league.
